HELP SAVE OUR STREETS!

supplying resources and providing opportunities for underserved communities

GET INVOLVED

Issue

Save Our Streets was formed in response to the extremely high level of crime and violence that has been plaguing many underserved communities for the last 5 years. Although the news about youth violence eventually affects every young person, most of the young people directly affected grow up in the most distressed urban neighborhoods. In these areas, school dropout and unemployment rates are extremely high and many schools and social service agencies are struggling to stay open. These, plus many other circumstances that lead to youth violence and social issues, must all be addressed differently. By using a combination of positive programs, outreach, prevention, intervention, response, and mentorship, our organization has set forth to address many of these circumstances and issues.

Action

The core belief of Save Our Streets is that it's time for a change.  We help to accomplish this through developing programs and providing outreach services, training, and resources to high crime, low-income communities.  We provide educational, recreational, cultural, health, and lifelong learning opportunities for youth ages 13-21.  We ensure the safety and well-being of at-risk youth; ensure their families have enough food in the households; and provide seasonal necessities to less fortunate families.  These goals are accomplished through creating and implementing programs and solutions that improves health, education, human welfare and provide opportunities for youth and their families.   We provide a central location where at-risk youth feel physically and emotionally safe, be free from danger, socialize with their peers, pursue their interests and be comfortable trying new activities.  To support the basic needs of youth, we provide a free food program and an emergency food bank for those in need. We have also created a donation center that provides clothing, coats, blankets, toys, furniture and seasonal supplies for youth in need.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Our programs and services provided to the community will increase literacy rates; increase school completion rates; increase levels of education achieved; increase employment rates through job skills; increase participation in community groups and projects; increase social and emotional well-being; and, finally, ultimately, reduce recidivism rates.

SOS’s mission is to provide positive programs and resources to improve the present and future situations for underserved youth and adults.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
